You know when your child is unwell and therefore it is imperative for all parties that your child should not be sent to nursery if he/she is unwell, or if they are unable to cope with normal nursery activities eg outdoor play.
Please do not put the staff in an awkward position by not disclosing information regarding your child’s health or by encouraging attendance when they are ill.
Emergency contact numbers for all children and staff will be kept up to date and easily accessible at all times.
Infection Control will be followed as in accordance with the nursery Infection Control Policy and by following the guidance above.
You are responsible for keeping us informed regarding your child’s health and their attendance at nursery.
It is imperative to call if your child will not attend nursery for their booked hours. This should be done within an hour of the child’s start time so the nursery can plan activities accordingly.
It would be much appreciated if the parent could also contact the nursery if their child contracts a serious illness or infection out with their booked days. This ensures that the nursery is fully informed and can pass on relevant information to other parents or professionals.
Please be aware that your child may be refused admission to nursery if Management make an informed decision on the health of you child.
If at anytime your child becomes unwell or ill at nursery they will be made as comfortable as possible. In the first instance the parents will be contacted.
If the parent is unable to be contacted the emergency contact number will be contacted. In these circumstances the staff will ask you or the emergency contact person to pick up the child, if necessary.
The nursery will only administer medication for life threatening allergic reactions or conditions such as asthma, epilepsy, cystic fibrosis etc and only with consent and a medical form completed by the relevant parties.
Parents should provide the nursery with sufficient information about the medical condition and expertise/health professional training should be considered by both parties, if necessary.
This will be provided by the nursery for appropriate circumstances.
The medical form will need to be completed by the parent and staff member before any administration can take place.
When the parent/carer collects the child they should counter sign medical form to confirm that they understand the full administered medicine as well as the date and time of receiving the medicine back.
This will not be administered unless the child has a medical need, and the Paracetamol/Calpol has been prescribed by a Doctor.
Due to this being highly contagious children should only return to nursery once eyes are clear and the child is well.
Prescribed medication will be administered, once the course has begun at home.
Children cannot return to nursery until 24 hours after the first administration of this medicine.
We are not able to apply teething gels or products, unless these have been prescribed.
This should be provided by the parents. Where cream has been applied, this is noted within daily diaries/daily register.
Please be aware, under no circumstances should medication of any kind, be stored in your child's nursery bag. This is to ensure NO child can have access to unauthorised medication which could cause serious harm to them.
A medication form must be completed by the parent prior to acceptance of medication. Medicines must be in the original container, with the prescription label present, detailing the date, child’s correct name and D.O.B. Any medicines which require fridge storage will be kept in the fridge.
All daily medication must be taken home at the end of each day.
